How can a novel influence its readers?



Novel is a long narrative prose which usually describes fictional story. Thousands of novels had been published in the world. Many kinds of novels had been written with different style. Writers try to convey a story which informing and affecting readers. There are various themes in novels, such as love story, life story, success story, religion story, detective story, etc.

Novel can influence its readers positively. Stories written in a novel could motivate readers to make a huge effort to be success. For example, a novel titled “Rainbow Troops” by Andrea Hirata describes an experience on pursuing dreams to study might give motivation to many people on achieving their ideas.

Moreover, novel can also give knowledge and attract people’s interest in reading. A novel might contain useful information such as culture, tourism, education, science, human character, religion, etc. To illustrate this point, novel “The Land of Five Towers” by Ahmad Fuadi might predispose some people to choose study in religion school. In this novel, Fuadi narrate his interesting school life in a religion school so that readers could get the messages.

Yet, novel may bring negative effects to its readers. For example, novel with pornography, violence or racism substances might offer a negative impact. Readers might duplicate bad attitude from the story.

Too often reading novels may make some people reluctant to do other activities. Sometimes, novel is like an opium. It can bring or create addiction for some people. Readers would be interested to continuously read a novel to the end of the book and read another one.

It is clear that novel can influence its readers, positively or negatively. People should choose which novel they have to read so they can obtain positive effects.
